This is a little outdated at the present moment, but still it is an exciting piece of news which heralds the dawn of a new toolkit for genetic mapping. The Allen Brain Atlas project involves the mapping of mouse gene activation to specific regions within the mouse brain. Since nearly eighty percent of genes have been shown to be switched on and regulated inside the brain instead of other parts of the body, this atlas allows for many a researcher to easily trace which part of the brain where a subject gene is activated / up-regulated, thus permitting the easy knock-out or artificial regulation of the gene in question. Similar work has begun on the mapping of the human brain, and it remains to be seen whether this effort will replicate the success of the work on the mouse brain. Nevertheless, the project is a truly marvellous initiative..

The cousin and his wife came up from London yesterday evening to pay a visit and take me out for dinner. As we walked northward past Sainsbury, we discovered a fine French restaurant called Cafe Rouge, and to our delight, the prices were reasonable too! :)
It was lovely to have had visitors to Cam. And I do look forward to any of you dearies who might happen to have the sudden notion of winging by to say hello in person.. :)
