Saturday's auditions drew, according to the coach, less of a crowd than normal, but among the limited number who turned up (roughly twenty each of ladies and gents), the standard was much higher than previous years'. The coach made a progressive series of cuts - first was a short shine routine, then a short partnerwork routine, then a round of socialing. When it came to the final round of socialing, it dawned that the seven couples who were left on the floor were the chosen ones, and that perhaps the last round was to assess whom we each looked good partnering up with. Shortly after, there was the surprising realisation that we have three Singaporeans in the team this year! Pretty impressive that the little red dot has produced such a proportion of dancers here in Cam hehe.. :) The first training session starts on Wednesday evening, and let us see how far I can be stretched.
Oh and I must introduce the coach (in my opinion a very handsome dude - I'd swoon if I were a girl haha).. Ivan is a PhD student in Cam, doing a biogeographical thesis on the multiplied effects of deforestation in Madagascar - pretty cool ain't it? He also dives (yay!) and his wife is working as a shark conservationist now (!!). Now how often do I meet someone with such a background.. And from the little that I have seen him dance, he seems to be much better and more suave than Zee! In good hands, no?
