News filtered through the Aussie press that stingrays have been found killed and their bodies mutilated along beaches Down Under after Steve Irwin's passing. Those words sent a chill through the depths of my conservationist's soul. Apparently, the killings were systematic and retributory in nature. Either that, or it was individual fear which triggered the massacre.

But stop! Wait. Think. Mother Nature and her wards never deserve to be treated in such a retributory manner. Stingrays have never been known for voluntary aggression; instead they are docile creatures which will only retaliate against serious provocation. It is foolish, to say the least, to begin a stingray massacre just because one of its species very accidentally caused the death of your hero in its self-defence. Steve himself would have been ashamed at this dishonourable massacre.

The heart twinges in pain, to hear of every one of these majestic fish - beautiful creatures in Nature's scheme of things - meeting with an untimely death at a barbarian's hands.
