-- CPT Chua JK . Delta PC1
At times it's been tough, such agony of pushing mental and physical faculties to the limit and beyond to where one doesn't know when breaking point appears.
At times it's been miserable, cold, wet-through and the only palpable relief is the numbing of mind to senses and emotions that can only bring further weakness in sufferance.
At times it's been heartwarming, with full-bodied hotblooded climacterics of camaraderie amongst those who have fought, and lived, alongside.
At times it's been wrenching, comrades fallen by the wayside who will never get the chance to realign with those still standing.
At times it's been a high that seemingly sustains itself, a virtuous cycle, on and on.
And this time, it is quiet satisfaction and a gentle touch of pride with which the sword - ever symbolic of the Officer Corps - is received at the Army Appointment Certificate Presentation Ceremony (ACPC). Almost gently, almost lovingly.
A long tedious journey nears its end, whilst the new challenge lies ahead and as we gear ourselves for transformation, we'll be the ones to lead the rest.
In retrospect, words written at the beginning of the Signals Officer Cadet Course now ring surprisingly true
--
Many cadets in other vocations often remark that signals cadets are not offered the opportunity to enjoy the comradeship and camaraderie that are the hallmark of people-oriented vocations like the infantry. I beg to disprove this notion. I have found, among these thirty-one other cadets and one officer trainee, firm fast friendships and sound bonds that have seen me through the darkest of nights and brightest of days. I have found great talents and common interests. And most importantly, I have found peers who will be walking the path of NS, and thereafter the road of life, together with me into the future and beyond.
As we grow into our roles of young officers, may we always hold the Officer's Creed and the spirit of signals dear to our hearts. May they be the holdfasts that we can always rely upon.
