All the sadness and frustrations in my life recently seemed to vanish yesterday after a wonderful little "party" at Wenqi's, and today after my family's trip to St. John's. We had actually wanted to go to Kusu to fish from the small jetty today, but attracted by the prospects of big fish and more big fish, we made the hop over to St. John's after recommendation from a kaki last week. Walked for quite a long time after we alighted from the ferry and ended up on the breakwater/bridge between St. John's and Lazarus where there were many large sluice gates below to allow for current flow through the otherwise blocked channel. The first thing that I noticed there was the coastline of Lazarus. Rock-strewn platforms, steep cliffs with dense overhanging vegetation and a pounding surf on the shore! I bet if I were shown a photo of that part of the coast alone, I would have sworn it was out of Singapore. But surprise surprise, guess it shows that there can be natural wonders even in tiny Singapore!

In any case the current through the gates was bloody strong today, so strong, in fact, that the patterns on the water surface before entry into the gates were like straight arrows radiating from the gates. Gee... But we persevered, nevertheless. Went over to the other side of the bridge and dropped our rigs down where the concrete slabs in between the gates happened to be. The eddy currents there turned out to be a form of shelter underwater for our rigs so they weren’t layang-ed away by the current. And it didn’t take long for the first bite. Mum and me were landing one Yellowtail after another, each one very much bigger than those at Kusu. Seems like this area holds a motherlode of big Yellowtail in the Southern Islands! Will remember this day for a long time, for the final tally of 6.2 kg of 47 Yellowtails, and for my best effort of 3 whoppers on one rig! -grin- Plus the fact that I got a nice even tan makes it even better, haha! :p

On Friday, went to school for attendance taking but ended up skipping the concert cos I wanted to go home to sleep. (Oh no, learning from Yang…) Met up with Nana and Wenqi at Jelita in the afternoon cos we had fixed the afternoon for cooking and having a nice dinner at Wenqi’s to relive our Chrisco cooking. And despite the initial worry that we harboured of having too few people (3 only) for a great time, we had an absolutely wonderful time! Chopping, washing, frying, baking together, we managed to conjure up 3 main dishes of pad thai, deep fried sea bass slices and mozzarella chicken, and a dessert (albeit a failed one at that, hehe) that was supposed to be chocolate mud cake but ended up looking like chocolate pudding and tasting like chocolate goo. Haha! But, as Nana and Wenqi can testify, we had so much fun crapping as we cooked in the kitchen, haha! Then after dinner, we sat around in the little room where the 29th played charades during Chrisco last year, and talked about our lives in perspective, our futures, and marriage. It was like wow, I was so surprised that the 3 of us could click just like that. So we ended up agreeing to fix another day after prelims to do it again! And hopefully, beyond that as well. Shall add the photos to this page once Nana has sent me hers... Oh, Nana and I were also pleasantly surprised to discover that both of us could talk so well and had a common understanding on many issues too. Never knew that I could share thoughts with her, but well, isn’t it nice? -grin- Unexpectedly, a friend I'd never have imagined possible... :)
